Podium finishes for Lee Johnston at Ulster Grand Prix

13 August 2019

"It's always a good feeling to stand on the podium at an international road race but i can't deny I'm a bit frustrated that I didn't win the Supersport race particularly having led it for so long."

Thursdays UGP racing saw Lee Johnston claiming a close second in the Supersport race. He also recorded a new PB lap around Dundrod curcuit of 133.272mph while getting a fourth place in the Spuerbike race.

Good conditions surrounded the circuit and Lee was the 2nd quickest lap on the Ashcourt Racing Yamaha with his lap of 128.079mph just 0.698s behind Peter Hickman.

Davey Todd found himself in 3rd place but it became a two horse race as Lee and Peter shot out 1.2s ahead of third place.

Lee took the lead and was 0.103s ahead of Peter Hickman in the final lap looking to add to his IOM TT and NW200 results but in the final straight, Hickman slightly edged Lee by just 0.357s.

Saturday saw a massive three more Ashcourt Racing podiums in an impressive day for rider Lee Johnston. Heavy rain and mist was set across the Dundrod Circuit on the Saturday.

It was a six lap Superstock race that got things started on the Saturday with Lee finding himself in 10th place early on. He managed to fight his way into 4th place where he finished the race but struggled with visibility issues from spray of people ahead of him.

After this, the Supersport race followed where Lee took a second place after edging out Davey Todd.

6 lap Superbike race followed with Lee's quick pace finding him fourth place adrift of winner Peter Hickman.

Poduim number 2 came with a third place in the Supertwins race on the Ashcourt Racing KMR Kawasaki when he managed to hold off Jamie Coward on the final lap as things on the track dried up.

Head to head with Peter Hickman, in a thrilling battle between the two, Lee finished a close second by just 0.145s.
